Music has the power to heal, connect, and uplift. Through this initiative, we also aim to restore opportunities that many elderly individuals never had the chance to experience. With carefully designed sessions held at Villa San Lawrenz, this project is more than just a music class—it’s a celebration of inclusion, dignity, and joy. Open to residents and members of the wider community, these gatherings offer a welcoming space where everyone can participate, perform, and belong.
PROJECT COMPLETED
Musical Moments was a truly heartwarming community initiative, lovingly spearheaded by the Allegrija Foundation and held at the serene Villa San Lawrenz – Elderly Residential Home in San Lawrenz, Gozo. Delivered in a friendly and inclusive atmosphere, the event offered adult participants—from passionate amateurs to curious beginners—an opportunity to explore rhythm, melody, and Malta’s rich cultural heritage. Over a relaxed morning, attendees were invited to reconnect with self-expression, memory, and camaraderie through music, regardless of prior experience. The warmth of the setting encouraged joyful collaboration and mutual support, making Musical Moments both a musical and personal journey for everyone present. This initiative was made possible through the Funding Scheme to Deliver Nonformal Learning Opportunities for Adults in Malta & Gozo which is administered by the Directorate for Lifelong Learning and Employability within the Ministry for Education, Sport, Youth, Research and Innovation, reflecting our collective commitment to lifelong learning and community engagement.
The positive impact of Musical Moments extended well beyond the notes heard and the melodies shared—it nurtured social connection and fostered a renewed sense of belonging among participants. By design, the event aligned with our goals of reinforcing the importance of accessible, community-based adult education. Feedback from those who attended highlighted how such experiences can reawaken creative curiosity and support emotional well-being. We’re proud that Musical Moments exemplified how cultural expression and non-formal learning can unite individuals, enrich lives, and contribute to a vibrant adult learning ecosystem in our islands.
Building on the success of Musical Moments, we are also able to bring these sessions—and similar ones—directly to elderly individuals, whether in residential homes or private households. By reaching people where they are, we aim to reduce social exclusion, brighten daily life, and bring more smiles through the joy of music and shared connection.
