Sensory Activities
Allegrija Foundation is launching a Sensory Activities Project aimed at supporting the wellbeing, inclusion, and empowerment of young people, especially youths on the autism spectrum. This initiative is being implemented thanks to the Boost Scheme, administered by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ. Through this project, Allegrija Foundation will provide structured and supervised sensory sessions using resources such as kinetic sand, slime, and tactile accessories. These materials are carefully selected because they offer calming sensory input. As a result, they help reduce anxiety and stress. Moreover, they support emotional regulation, focus, and overall mental wellbeing. Many autistic youths experience sensory processing differences. Therefore, addressing these needs in a safe and supportive way is essential. For this reason, the project focuses on creating a predictable and non-judgemental environment. In this space, young people can explore, relax, and express themselves freely. At the same time, activities are flexible and adaptable. This allows participants to engage at their own pace and according to their comfort levels.
In addition, the Sensory Activities Project promotes a person-centred and inclusive approach to youth work. Young people are given real choice and control. For example, they can decide how, when, and for how long they take part. Sessions are shaped by individual sensory profiles, preferences, and feedback. Consequently, participants feel respected and empowered. Where appropriate, activities also encourage social interaction, communication, and turn-taking. However, personal boundaries are always respected. Importantly, this project aligns with the National Autism Strategy, which promotes holistic, community-based, and non-medical support. Instead of trying to change the individual, the focus remains on wellbeing, confidence, and participation. Ultimately, the project helps foster a sense of calm, belonging, and self-worth. It also strengthens inclusive practice within the community, while showcasing how sensory-based activities can positively support young people’s quality of life.
This project helps young people feel calmer and more emotionally balanced by offering sensory activities that support self-regulation and reduce anxiety.
It promotes inclusion and confidence by providing a safe, autism-friendly space where each participant can engage at their own pace and in their own way.
It encourages wellbeing and positive social experiences through flexible activities that respect individual needs while gently supporting interaction and communication.
The Sensory Activities sessions are designed specifically for young people, with a strong focus on youths on the autism spectrum and those who benefit from sensory-based support. During each session, participants engage in calming and creative activities using tactile materials such as kinetic sand, slime, and other sensory tools. These activities are supervised, structured, and flexible, allowing young people to take part at their own pace and according to their comfort levels. As a result, the sessions support relaxation, emotional regulation, and overall wellbeing, while also creating opportunities for positive social interaction in a safe and respectful environment. This project is made possible thanks to funding through the Boost Scheme, administered by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, whose support enables Allegrija Foundation to deliver inclusive, youth-centred activities that respond directly to the needs of young people in the community.

The Sensory Activities Project was successfully implemented for young people, with a particular focus on youths on the autism spectrum. Throughout the project, participants took part in structured and supervised sensory sessions using tactile materials such as kinetic sand, slime, and other calming resources. These activities provided a safe and supportive space where young people were able to relax, self-regulate, and express themselves at their own pace. As a result, many participants showed increased calmness, confidence, and engagement, while also experiencing positive moments of social interaction in an inclusive and respectful environment. This project was made possible thanks to the support of the Boost Scheme, administered by Aġenzija Żgħażagħ, whose funding enabled Allegrija Foundation to respond meaningfully to the sensory and emotional needs of young people within the community.
